General questions about the technology
Augmented reality is the computer-based extension of one's own perception of reality. It combines the natural perception of people with computer-aided elements by projecting virtual content into the real environment via a mobile device. The term Mixed Reality (MR) is also used synonymously.
Virtual reality is the representation and simultaneous perception of a real situation in a computer-generated environment. Special glasses are used to implement the experience.
XR as an abbreviation for "Extended Reality" or also "Cross Reality" refers to the blending of digital and analog worlds and is often used as an umbrella term for the immersive technologies Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality. While AR is an extension of the real world, VR encompasses purely virtual worlds.
The use of immersive technologies (such as augmented and virtual reality) creates virtual content that is close to reality. An immersive experience is therefore understood as immersion in virtual worlds and interaction with digital elements.
CAD (Computer-Aided Design) is a technology that is used, for example, in the digital design of a product. CAD data is also used for 3D modelling and 3D printing.
A rendering is a digitally created, three-dimensional object. This is provided in the rendering process with surface reflections and light irradiations, so that products have an appropriate effect online. Thus, a rendering is considered the preliminary stage of a 3D model.
A 3D scan from rooom makes it possible to use an app to easily capture real objects with the camera of a mobile device and turn them into a 3D model. In addition, professional 3D scans of products or volumetric 3D body scans can be done in our scanning studio.
A 360° tour is based on a scan of real rooms or buildings by a 3D camera. This creates a virtual twin of the object, in which you can freely move and look around as in a tour.
A digital twin is a digital representation of an intended or real-world physical product, system, or process. There are different use cases for digital twins:
- Virtual training without machine downtime
- Product explanations in sales and marketing, allowing customers to get precise product information
- Quality control and remote maintenance
- Virtual real estate tours
A virtual or digital showroom is an exhibition space on the Internet. With rooom, virtual showrooms can be created individually as a 3D environment and equipped with 3D models.
A virtual or digital event takes place completely online and is therefore not bound to a physical location. A virtual event is realized with tools such as an event platform, live streams, 3D presentation and modern communication tools.
A hybrid event combines a face-to-face event with digital elements, such as live streaming, virtual networking and 3D exhibits. This means that the content of the event is not only available at the event location and date, but also via the Internet, regardless of location and time.

Our 3D viewers can be called up on any digital device via the browser. Once your 3D data is in our system, it can easily be displayed in virtual reality and augmented reality.
Our platform runs web-based on all devices, without installation. To view the 3D content, for example when visiting a virtual trade fair or showroom, all you need is a up-to-date browser and a stable Internet connection. We recommend using the browsers Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox.
You also need a user account to edit the content, unless you use the Space Configurator. The Space Configurator is web-based and does not require an account.
For the use of Virtual Reality you also need a common VR system.
For Augmented Reality projections a smartphone or tablet with camera access is required. Our AR applications are supported by the following devices/operating systems:
- iPhone model from 6S
- iPad model from 5
- iOS from version 12
- Android from version 8.0 with ARCore 1.9 support
The security and trust of our customers are particularly important to us. This concerns on the one hand the handling of personal data and on the other hand the security when using our platform. In our privacy policy we inform you in detail about the handling of your personal data.
Everyone who works for and at rooom is under a signed confidentiality agreement with any information provided by our clients. We fully understand your strategic insights are valuable and delicate. In other words; your (company’s) secrets are safe with us!
Questions about 3D models
3D models can be easily created on rooom by 3D scan, from photos or, if available, also from CAD data or other available 3D data.
3D object data (preferably in .glb format) can be imported into our system by creating an account and uploading it in the "Products" category. After the system has processed the data, you have the possibility to customize the 3D model.
If you already have 3D data, you can upload it directly to our platform. It is important to note that there are many different standards in the world of 3D content. Fortunately, with rooom you have a flexible partner at your side who can handle most formats well. For 3D models, the data format .glb is particularly suitable. In addition, .gltf, .obj and .fbx are also supported.
If you do not have 3D data available, you can also create a series of images and upload them. Take multiple photos from different heights (depending on the size of the object), with which every single angle of view on the object is covered. The object should be neutrally lit, without strong shadows and without flash. Ideally, you should use a high-quality camera and pay attention to the exposure and sharpness of the photos. Finally, upload the series of pictures to the platform. The system then compiles the images and generates a 3D model. If post-processing is necessary, you can contact our experts and receive a cost estimate.
The size of a 3D model depends on its complexity. An object with low complexity, such as a lamp, has a size of only about two MB. For comparison: a smartphone photo is about three to five MB in size.
Whether it's a showroom or an exhibition booth: Our creative experts will be happy to assist you in creating and setting up your 3D object. Of course, we also create professional 3D models individually according to your wishes.
Questions about the display via 3D viewer
A 3D space is a 3D model of a room that can be created on our platform and forms the basis for many of our solutions. You can move freely in the virtual rooms and furnish them with various elements from our catalog. You can also add your own 3D models.
A 3D viewer is a medium for spatial representation of objects as 3D models in the form of a public link. A 3D viewer is necessary to not only view the 3D models and spaces on our platform, but also to embed and publish them on your own website. At rooom we differentiate between 3D Product Viewer and 3D Space Viewer.
A 3D Product Viewer is used to visualize a single object such as a guitar. The 3D model can be viewed from all sides and can also be displayed in Augmented Reality.
A 3D Space Viewer, on the other hand, is used to visualize a virtual environment such as a showroom. Within this environment 3D objects can be placed individually, for example as a 3D Product Viewer. Links and multimedia content can also be used in the 3D Space Viewer.
A 3D configurator allows end users to modify 3D models (for example, as products in an e-commerce store) and customize details such as color.
The Space Configurator is a tool for the individualization of predefined spaces, which is used, for example, for the customization of exhibition booths. In this way, the contents can be exchanged and colored individually. However, no objects can be added or moved.
Multimedia content can be integrated into our 3D spaces, for example advertising materials for company presentations at digital events or in a virtual showroom. You can also add 3D models of your products to your space or showroom easily. The following technical requirements apply:
- Images: JPG or PNG
- Videos: MP4, max. 30 MB and/or embedding URL from YouTube and/or Vimeo
- Brochures: PDF, max. 20 MB or 100 pages
- URLs: embeddable HTTPS websites
Our 3D product and space viewers can be easily embedded on your website like a YouTube video or shared via email or social media. To integrate a 3D viewer into your website, simply add the embed code via iFrame to the HTML code of your website.
The integration of 3D content into a shop system is easier than ever before with rooom. Through API interfaces and plugins, the integration into existing online shops is also possible without any problems.
More about shop integration
Due to the small size and embeddability of our 3D models, the loading time of your website or online shop remains fast even with 3D content.
a) Open our 3D Product Viewer with a mobile device (smartphone or tablet) to view the corresponding 3D model in Augmented Reality. There, all they have to do is tap the "AR" button in the bottom right corner and allow access to your device's camera.
b) Alternatively, you can open the 3D model via the desktop and click on the "AR" button. Now you will be shown a QR code that you can scan with a mobile device to get the AR projection.
a) Open our 3D Space Viewer and use VR glasses or headset to enter the WebVR mode.
b) For high-quality VR experiences, we offer an application for Oculus.
c) Alternatively, you can open the 3D Space Viewer with your smartphone and use mini-VR glasses to view the virtual space in VR.

A blockchain is like a digital ledger that stores information in a secure and transparent way. It's made up of a chain of blocks, with each block containing a group of transactions. These blocks are linked together using cryptography, making it difficult to alter past data, ensuring security and trustworthiness.
Blockchains are decentralized, with data distributed across a network of computers. This decentralization makes it more secure and transparent, as there's no single point of failure and everyone can verify the information stored on the blockchain.
A token is a digital asset that represents ownership or value within a particular ecosystem. Tokens can be used for a wide range of purposes, such as representing a share in a company, granting access to a specific service, or functioning as a form of digital currency. Tokens are typically built on top of existing blockchain networks, such as Ethereum or Binance Smart Chain, and can be traded, bought, or sold on various cryptocurrency exchanges.
A cryptocurrency is a digital or virtual form of money that uses cryptography for security. It is built on blockchain technology, which ensures that transactions are secure, transparent, and independent of central authorities like banks or governments. Examples of cryptocurrencies include Bitcoin and Ethereum.
No, our platform does not support payments in cryptocurrency. Purchases and sales are only possible in real-world currencies. We've integrated the payment service Stripe to ensure a seamless and convenient purchasing experience for your clients.
A wallet is a digital tool used to manage public and private keys needed to handle cryptocurrencies. It's vital for securely storing, sending, and receiving cryptocurrencies. Wallets can be custodial (managed by a third party) or non-custodial (managed by the user).
